When Republican candidates gathered for a debate on CNBC, they were supposed to talk about the economy and issues related to national finance. We were sure that would include some details about the economic impacts of climate change.
While we were mostly disappointed in the fact that moderators didn’t ask about climate change, the campaigns of leading Republicans like Ben Carson, Donald Trump and Marco Rubio had a different beef: they thought the moderators were too aggressive, trying to catch them in a lie or encouraging them to attack other candidates on stage. They were so upset about it they formed a special meeting and canceled a future debate on a different NBC network!
The moderators of the next debate, Tuesday night at 7 & 9 p.m. Eastern on Fox Business News, have promised to be more fair and balanced. But will that include asking more questions about climate change? Tune in to watch with us live online!
One thing is for sure, this debate is a shake up from the earlier Republican debates this fall. Some candidates, like Chris Christie, have been cut from the main stage because their poll numbers are too low. Christie will still appear at the 7 p.m. ‘under-card’ debate though — while other candidates like Lindsey Graham and George Pataki are not even invited to attend! That could make a difference to climate questions since Graham, as one of the few candidates to talk openly about climate change and why it matters, has been asked about climate issues in each of the last few debates.
But the surest way to encourage the Fox Business and Wall Street Journal hosts to ask about climate change is to tell them we’ll be watching and what we want them to do!
