2 Outs, Bottom of The 9th For Florida Black Bear
Yesterday I addressed the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) in a last ditch effort to keep the 20 year hunting ban on hunting bears intact. It was an honor to represent the amazing membership of Environmental Action and present FWC with the $5,000 we donated towards non-lethal management tools like bear proof trash cans and public education.
Thank you so much to all of you who pitched in. Even the Chairman of FFWC was impressed with your donation, and it made state and national news. You can check out my testimony and a quick clip from my interview with NBC news following the hearing below.
Unfortunately, FWC voted to move ahead with approving the rules for the new hunt that would start as early as this October. But that does not mean that the fight is over to protect this beautiful species. There is still one more vote to go this June, and you can be rest assured that we will fight this thing tooth and nail. Our coalition, which includes allies like the Humane Society of the United States and the Animal Recovery Mission, is already planning the next steps to save the Florida Black Bear.
I am so proud to be a part of this organization and so thankful to all of you who have donated funds and/or signed petitions. There is one more FWC meeting in June to make our case and plenty to do afterwards if they won’t listen. Stay tuned for more information on how you can stay involved.
Thank you so much for all that you do,
Anthony and the Environmental Action Bear Club
