Cause of Global Warming 'Doesn't Really Matter'
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2008-10-01

fter November 4th, the Katie Couric interview with Gov. Sarah Palin will be hilarious, assuming she loses the election. Right now, however, it's pretty frightening.

Below is a video of the interview - it covers more than just global warming, so skip ahead to 4:10, or check out the couple of questions:

Couric : What's your position on global warming? Do you believe it's man-made or not?

Palin : Well, we're the only arctic state, of course, Alaska, so we feel that impacts more than any other state up there with the changes in the climate, and certainly it is apparant we have erosion issues and we have melting sea ice, of course. What I've done up there is form a sub-cabinet to focus solely on climate change, understanding that it is real and um....

Couric : Is it man-made though, in your view?

Palin : You know there are man's activities that can be contributed to the issues that we're dealing with now with these impacts. I'm not going to solely blame all of man's activities on changes in climate because the world's weather patterns are cyclical and over history we have seen changes there. But, uh,  kinda doesn't matter at this point as we debate what caused it. The point is, it's real, we need to do somethin' about it.

Holy crow. Let alone that fact that her sentences fail to resemble actual human speech, she's suggesting it doesn't matter what causes global warming. How on earth can we solve the problem, if we don't know what causes it? Ridiculous.

UPDATE : Gov. Palin says that the cause of global warming doesn't really matter. So I went to her sub cabinet site to see what they were doing.

From their own website:

"The Sub-Cabinet is charged with preparing and implementing an Alaska Climate Change Strategy. This will be a transparent document which deals with state policies for anticipated climate change. The Sub-Cabinet's strategy will discuss:

  • Building the state's knowledge of the actual and foreseeable effects of climate warming in Alaska
  • Developing appropriate measures and policies to prepare communities in Alaska for the anticipated impacts from climate change
  • Providing guidance regarding Alaska's participation in regional and national efforts addressing causes and effects of climate change"

To be clear then, the cause doesn't matter, so she set up a sub-cabinet to discover.........the causes of global warming! Good work, Governor.
