More Suffering=More Drilling?
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2008-09-03

This weekend was pretty tense around my house. My friend Drew is visiting from New Orleans, and it was sad and frightening to watch him all day calling loved ones to check on them.

Of course Gustav hit and the damage to New Orleans was minor - at least compared to Katrina. But 800,000 homes in LA were without power, in addition to over 75,000 in the City of New Orleans. Out of 1.8 million homes in the state, that's a pretty big percentage.

And what was President Bush's all-too-humane response? According to the Washington Post, "President Bush said yesterday that the relatively little damage suffered by oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico because of Hurricane Gustav should prod Congress to open more coastal areas to offshore oil drilling."

What a humanitarian!

Seriously, I'm pretty shocked that when most politicians are encouraging us to donate to the Red Cross, President Bush is using the natural disaster to push for more drilling. Shame on you, Mr. President.
