Palin Lies About Polar Bear Research
Posted by Dan Stafford on 2008-09-24
Some good articles have come out recently about Gov. Palin's lawsuit to stop the Federal Government from protecting the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act. The core piece that people are covering - which I'm very happy about - is that Gov. Palin lied in a New York Times op-ed piece she wrote before becoming the VP candidate. You can read a good article here, but the gist of the story is that in her article, the Governor wrote, "My decision [to sue] is based on a comprehensive review by state wildlife officials of scientific information from a broad range of climate, ice and polar bear experts." So a professor at the University of Alaska thought this wasn't the case, so dug out some info under the Freedom of Information Act. According to the story on Plenty, he "found that Alaskan officials did agree with the federal government’s findings that the species were indeed endangered". Seriously? She lied in a New York Times Op-Ed? Also, don't forget, she was running the state when they offered $3M to fund scientific research disproving the link between global warming and polar bear extinction . So failing to find the scientists willing to be bought, she decided to lie.
