Welcome to the new Environmental Action!

Welcome to the new Environmental Action!

Welcome to the new Environmental Action. Originally founded on Earth Day in 1970, we’re rebooting in 2012 with a mission to be the biggest, baddest, most exciting environmental group all your friends just heard of. I’m your new Executive Director, Drew Hudson, and let me say thank you for this amazing opportunity to help our organization grow back into its venerable history, ignite the public’s imagination and inspire action to protect the planet.

Those of you who’ve been with us since the first Earth Day know our history of staking out clear, uncompromising positions. We don’t work for politicians or corporations. We fight for the planet. So our yardstick for success is long⎯stopping global warming; cutting oil use in half; banning new oil and gas drilling; and guaranteeing everyone access to healthy, sustainable food.

To mark progress on these big goals, we’ll be offering you new and more high-tech opportunities to get involved with our campaigns⎯from mobile apps that help you save energy to collective actions that turn your support into a media spectacle the Big Oil companies can’t ignore. As you read through this site, you’ll see some early victories and some new campaigns too.

In everything we do, you’ll see a constant focus on action. For us, every action is a victory because it’s only with your involvement⎯both individual and collective⎯that we can protect our fragile planet.

A little bit more about me: I originally worked with the Maryland PIRG canvass office in Baltimore, and later directed the D.C. office year-round. I graduated from Green Corps in 2001 and then served as a fellow with NJPIRG before moving to Vermont and working with VPIRG starting in 2003. I did election work after that with MoveOn.org, and subsequently worked on local races in Vermont. I now live in Columbia, S.C., with my wife Mary and run Environmental Action. I also serve on the board of Change Corps.

I look forward to working with each of you in the coming months, hearing your dreams and your vision for our planet and the Environmental Action team. You can connect with me via email, drew {at} environmental-action.org or on Twitter @wealsoherdcats.
