Just 100 miles off the East Coast, a massive underwater canyon is hidden beneath the waves.
This might be the most amazing place you’ve never heard of.
Just 100 miles off the East Coast, a massive underwater canyon is hidden beneath the waves.
Stretching more than two miles deep, and seven miles wide, Hudson Canyon is home to a remarkable array of wildlife — including critically endangered Right whales.
There are just a few hundred Right whales left in the world, and they’re spiraling toward extinction. If we don’t act fast, their decline could be irreversible. Protecting their habitat is an easy first step.
And Right whales aren’t the only wildlife who call Hudson Canyon home. More than 200 species of fish and 17 kinds of marine mammals live there.
And that may not be all. Hudson Canyon is the largest underwater canyon ever discovered in U.S. waters. That far below the waves, who knows what wonders we haven’t even seen yet?
Right now, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is deciding whether to protect Hudson Canyon from activities like offshore drilling, while increasing research into this unique ecosystem.
We need to show the agency that there’s overwhelming public support for Hudson Canyon. Tell NOAA: This national wonder deserves to be protected.
