Tell Trader Joe’s: Reduce plastic waste
The risk of plastic pollution to wildlife isn’t worth the convenience of plastic packaging at the grocery store.

Plastic food wrappers, beverage bottles, and take out containers are all among the top 10 types of trash found polluting the ocean.
To a turtle, fish or bird, a scrap of plastic may look like a tasty morsel. But eating too much plastic can cause wildlife to starve to death with full stomachs.
The risk of plastic pollution to wildlife isn’t worth the convenience of plastic packaging at the grocery store.
That’s why we’re calling on Trader Joe’s to help prevent waste by reducing plastic packaging on its shelves.
With a dump trucks’ worth of plastic entering the ocean every single minute, it’s just common sense: Companies shouldn’t use packaging that will outlive us all in the form of pollution. The health of our planet depends on it.
Millions of pounds of plastic go into the packaging that Trader Joe’s uses to wrap its products each year.
And the sad truth is that almost every single piece of that plastic packaging will end up in a landfill — or worse, drifting around in the environment as pollution. Only an estimated 5% of plastic is ever recycled.
We know we can convince Trader Joe’s to do the right thing, because the company already has sustainability on its mind.
Trader Joe’s knows that plastic pollution is bad news. That’s why it’s already in the process of removing polystyrene from all the products it sells.
But the company can — and must — go farther. Other forms of single-use plastic are just as wasteful, and just as likely to end up as pollution that clogs our ocean and puts wildlife at deadly risk.
If Trader Joe’s is going to continue to change its policies for the better, it needs to hear from the public.

The best way to reduce plastic waste and protect our planet is to reduce our use of single-use plastic in the first place.
