Wolf traps don’t belong on store shelves

When a wolf gets caught in a steel leg trap, she dies a slow and agonizing death.

With crunching force, traps intended for wolves indiscriminately bite down on the legs of their unsuspecting victims — whether that be a wolf, lynx or bear.

Wolf traps and snares are unnecessary, indiscriminate and cruel, yet they’re widely sold at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s across the country.

These inhumane traps have no place in America’s great outdoors.

Neck snares and leg traps kill wolves and other wildlife

When it comes to wolf traps, even the best outcome isn’t pretty.

Neck snares — a thin looped-wire cable that’s designed to tighten as a wolf struggles — starve a wolf’s brain of blood.

Leg traps send steel jaws crunching down on a wolf’s leg. When indiscriminate traps like these lay scattered across the forest floor, there’s no telling what wildlife will fall victim to them.

In places where wolf trapping is allowed, endangered species including grizzly bears and Canada lynx have been killed by wolf traps.

These traps should not line the shelves at America’s most visited sporting goods stores. But that change will happen only if our movement makes our voices heard where they matter most.

That’s why, together, we must urge Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops to stop selling these cruel wolf traps.

We need to ban wolf hunting and trapping across the board. But until we do, let’s get these cruel traps off the market.

These inhumane devices leave wolves in helpless agony until a hunter arrives to finish the job. Sometimes, the wolf’s wait may be hours. Sometimes, it may be days.

Tell Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops to stop selling wolf traps.
