Action needed: Critical wildlife protections are at risk

Docket No. FWS-HQ-ES-2025-0034; FXES11110900000-256 FF09E23000; 250411-0064

The Endangered Species Act (ESA) is one of the most successful pieces of conservation legislation in U.S. history. Over the past 50 years, it has sheltered more than 1,700 species from extinction and is credited with a success rate of more than 99%.

Changing the definition of “harm” under the ESA to exclude habitat destruction will put hundreds of endangered wildlife species at risk. Endangered animals can’t survive if their homes are destroyed by logging, mining, or drilling.

I strongly urge you not to rescind the definition of “harm” under the Endangered Species Act. Redefining the terms of the ESA now risks throwing away decades of conservation progress and harming the interconnected ecosystems that allow both wildlife and human communities to thrive.
