Action needed: Help save Chaco Canyon
Acting District Manager Maureen Joe,
Chaco Culture National Historical Park was designated as one of our first national monuments in 1907. The area sustains a wide range of microclimates, which support diverse plant and animal species. Elk, bobcats, rabbits, porcupines, badgers, wild horses and more than 100 bird species call the canyons and woodlands home. Archeological and cultural artifacts, some still to be discovered, exist outside the boundaries of the park.
Public Land Order 7923 was enacted with overwhelming public support to protect the wildlife habitat, cultural resources and the people who live in the immediate area from the negative effects of drilling. I urge you to keep this protection in place. Some places in our country are too precious to destroy. The Greater Chaco Landscape is one of those places.
Sincerely,
