Add your name: No oil and gas drilling in the Western Arctic
Re: RFI: Special Areas in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska
Caribou, polar bears, and millions of migratory birds are threatened by planned oil roads through the Western Arctic. Not to mention the danger of a potential oil spill in this fragile landscape.
We’re glad that 13 million acres of special areas are already protected. But right next door, the massive Willow oil drilling project is already under construction, and more drilling would further threaten the caribou’s annual migration.
To keep the oil industry from expanding further into critical caribou habitat and doing more damage, more special areas need to be off limits to oil drilling.
The Biden administration should protect more critical habitat in the Western Arctic and keep these animals safe. We support adding even more special areas to protect Arctic wildlife from new oil and gas development.
