Protect Ruby Mountain wildlife from fossil fuel extraction
Secretary Tom Vilsack,
The Ruby Mountains’ vast, rugged peaks are home to mule deer, mountain goats and bighorn sheep, and their tumbling streams provide habitat for fish like the threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout. They’re a national destination for fishing, hunting and birding, and they’re also the ancestral home of the Te-Moak Tribe of the Western Shoshone Indians of Nevada.
Landscapes like the Rubies are irreplaceable. I urge you to protect the Ruby Mountains and surrounding Ruby Marshes from oil and gas leasing to preserve this unique, wild mountain range for generations to come. Please submit a request to Secretary Deb Haaland of the Interior to withdraw from operation under the Mineral Leasing law 309,272 acres in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
