Take action: Wildlife crossings will help save red wolves from extinction
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy,
There are fewer than 20 wild red wolves left on the planet, all of which live in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina. The highway that cuts through their habitat is a deadly threat to this species’ survival: A shocking one-fifth of red wolves are killed by vehicles.
The money to build a wildlife crossing for red wolves and the other wildlife of the Outer Banks was awarded by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Now, all the red wolves need is for the project to go forward and the crossings to be built.
Wildlife crossings will save endangered red wolves, protect other species, and make the road safer for drivers. I strongly urge you to release the funds for this important project.
