Tell the EPA: Stop Exxon from expanding one of its dirtiest facilities

Dear EPA Administrator Regan,

ExxonMobil’s Baytown, Texas complex is one of the most polluting facilities in America. With frequent fires, explosions, and pollution violations, Exxon has a poor track record following the law. Now, the TCEQ has given Exxon permission to expand its “olefins” plant and pollute even more.

Exxon’s olefins plant is a major source of pollution and is located in the Houston Severe Ozone Nonattainment Area. But Exxon built the plant — and will now increase emissions — without having to meet the standards designed to clean up Houston’s unhealthy air. Exxon should comply with federal clean air requirements.

Please intervene to block the expansion of the Baytown petrochemical plant. The EPA should investigate Exxon’s Baytown olefins plant, and specifically how the company has relied on a sham permit to build a massive new source of pollution without ever meeting the federal clean air laws.
