Tell Trader Joe’s: Reduce plastic waste

Trader Joe’s CEO Bryan Palbaum,

To a turtle, fish or bird, a scrap of plastic may look like a tasty morsel. But eating too much plastic can cause wildlife to starve to death with full stomachs. The risk of plastic pollution to wildlife isn’t worth the convenience of plastic packaging at the grocery store.

Because as little as 5% of plastic is ever recycled, plastic pollution is piling up in our oceans and across the planet. The best way to reduce plastic waste and protect our planet is to reduce our use of single-use plastic in the first place.

I strongly urge you to continue Trader Joe’s commitment to sustainability and go beyond phasing out styrofoam and polystyrene. Please reduce single-use plastic packaging of all kinds at your stores.
