Tell Walmart: Protect the boreal forest

The northern boreal forest is the Earth’s green crown. Towering pine, aspen, birch and spruce trees shelter deep groves and clear sparkling lakes. It provides invaluable habitat for wildlife of all kinds, and preserves our climate by absorbing enough carbon every year to offset the carbon emissions of 24 million cars.

But the boreal is shrinking fast. In part to supply demand for paper products like tissue and toilet paper, boreal trees are disappearing at the rate of more than a football field’s worth every minute.

We can’t afford to flush away this forest, especially when sustainable alternatives for tissue manufacturing exist. I strongly urge you to commit to selling only forest-free tissue at Walmart and to reduce the amount of virgin wood pulp in your store-brand tissue products.
