These retailers need to stop selling cruel wolf traps

Wolf traps are cruel, indiscriminate, and unnecessary.

When it comes to wolf traps, even the best outcome isn’t pretty. The trap snares the wolf’s neck, starving its brain of blood.

Many wolves fare even worse. The trap snares the wolf’s limb or snout, leaving it in agony until a hunter arrives to finish the job. Sometimes, the wolf’s wait may be hours. Sometimes, it may be days.

Wolf traps are cruel, indiscriminate and unnecessary. That’s why we’re urging big outdoors retailers Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops to stop selling them.

Let’s get cruel wolf traps off of store shelves.

To a wolf, the trap is irresistible. Hunters treat the trap so it smells like food for a hungry wolf. By the time the wolf realizes its mistake, it’s too late.

Trapping isn’t the only “unsporting” way to kill wolves. In Idaho and Montana, wolf hunters can use night vision equipment, or chase down wolves with the aid of ATVs, snowmobiles or even helicopters.

We need to ban wolf hunting and trapping across the board. But until we do, we also need to get these cruel traps off the market. They’re indiscriminate, catching anything — from a rabbit to a bear — in its path. And they’re cruel, causing indescribable and unnecessary suffering.

Tell Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops to stop selling these inhumane devices.
