If this bill passes, logging will continue to destroy our nation’s oldest forests.
U.S. Sen. John Barrasso (Wyo.) recently introduced a bill that seeks to block the Biden administration’s proposal to advance protections for old-growth forests.
The bill is an attack on our climate-critical trees and forests. If nothing is done to protect them, ancient forests will come crashing down.
We need to tell our U.S. senators: Don’t jeopardize the last remaining old-growth forests on federal lands.
Old growth forests need our protection
They’ve grown from tiny saplings to towering beings, shed millions of autumn leaves, withstood winter storms, survived summer fires, and provided sustenance and shelter to species large and small.
Among the only things these ancient trees can’t do is speak for themselves.
We must speak for them — before chainsaws and bulldozers wipe them out.
Environmental Action supporters like you know that our oldest trees are worth more standing. By urging your senators to vote against the Barrasso bill, we can make sure they remain rooted.
Take action to keep pristine wildlife habitats intact
The Biden administration’s proposal, called the National Old Growth Amendment, will safeguard mature and old-growth trees across federal lands — allowing them to continue to store carbon, provide clean water and support wildlife for centuries to come.
The Barrasso bill will do the opposite. By blocking the National Old Growth Amendment from going into effect, the bill will give the timber industry access to logging in our old-growth forests.
For the ecosystems they support, old-growth trees are gifts that keep on giving. For the timber industry, a tree’s value grows until backhoes, bulldozers and saws cut it down.
We’re counting on Environmental Action supporters like you to help save America’s oldest trees and keep pristine wildlife habitats intact.
